Trinity United Methodist’s Candlelight Concerts presents “All Women ~ All Jazz,” A Benefit Concert for Dove House featuring Jazz vocalists Jean Lenke, Sarah Shea, & Ann Brittain, along with a stellar band under the direction of pianist musician Linda Dowdell: Elaine Gardner Morales on bass, Angie Tabor on drums, and Marge Rose on trumpet. The all women group will be highlighting early Jazz Standards written all or in part by women.

This will be a live concert with doors opening at 6:30 PM. The concert will also be streamed live at www.trinityumcpt.org where you will find a link for the Candlelight Concerts and ways to donate. The concert will also be simulcast on KPTZ FM 91.9.

Please Note: If Covid-19 infection levels dictate, this concert may be changed to online attendance only (live streaming and listening via KPTZ), which means no in-person attendance allowed. Final determination of in-person attendance will be made closer to the concert date.

Admission is free, with a suggested donation $10 per person. Half of the proceeds from this concert will go to the bands chosen charity, Dove House, www.dovehousejc.org, whose mission is to empower victims of crime and abuse in Jefferson County through education, advocacy and crisis intervention.

Trinity United Methodist Church is located at 609 Taylor Street, Port Townsend — across from the Community Center, in Uptown. Attendees should plan on arriving early – doors will open at 6:30 and admittance is limited to 50 people. COVID-safe protocols will be followed at the church. Personal ID and proof of vaccination will be required for entry and masks will be mandatory.

The Lineup:

ANN BRITTAIN

Ann Brittain is a native Washingtonian and self proclaimed jazz hippie who is thrilled to call Sequim home. Whether she’s cooking, gardening, or making music with others, it’s all done with an inquisitive and creative flair. Look for her singing jazz standards with the group Time Out at the Olympic Theatre Arts in Sequim.

LINDA DOWDELL

Port Townsend audiences know Linda Dowdell best as the composer/lyricist of her award-winning musical SPIRIT OF THE YULE, produced annually to great acclaim 2016-19 at Key City Public Theatre, where she has served as pianist and musical director for numerous productions since 2010. She was the original musical director and pianist of the Mark Morris Dance Group and Mikhail Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Project, with whom she toured the world. Her soup to nuts career runs from Off-Broadway to Seattle’s Royal Room, where she was last seen as bandleader of Friends of Brubeck.

ELAINE GARDNER-MORALES

Elaine teaches Vocal Jazz Ensemble, The History of Rock n’ Roll and Guitar for Peninsula College. With 30 years teaching experience, she brings a broad musical background to her classroom with teaching knowledge in: guitar, choral conducting, vocal jazz ensemble, jazz combo, guitar, theory and composition at the Brookhaven College School of the Arts in Dallas, TX. Her award winning vocal jazz ensembles have toured, nationally and internationally and produced numerous vocal professionals in the Dallas area.

JEAN LENKE

Jazz-Folk vocalist Jean Lenke paints scenery & emotion through song, approaching her canvas with broad strokes and a free hand. Having launched her musical career late in life, her music is influenced by an eclectic mix of genres that span generations. Jean has recently made her home in the Pacific Northwest, on the Olympic Peninsula. Through her music she celebrates all the shades and hues life brings us here, feelings, beautifully expressed and set free!

MARGE ROSEN

Marge Rosen is the conductor of the Port Townsend Summer Band. She plays jazz trumpet with Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra, Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra and Stardust Big Band. Marge also plays drums with the Peninsula College jazz band. A veteran of the U.S. Navy Band. She’s a former public school band director and music teacher with many years of experience in Washington, Maryland and New York states.

SARAH SHEA

Sarah Shea and her Chez Jazz combo perform a variety of songs from the American Songbook, including favorites by Gershwin, Ella Fitzgerald, Nora Jones, Etta James & Peggy Lee. With an elegant classic style Romantic songs, Scat and the Blues are her specialty. Sarah is also a wonderful music teacher and has a passion for children’s music.

ANGIE TABOR

Angie is an independent musician based in Port Townsend, Washington. Combining a Master’s degree in music with decades of performance experience here and abroad, she is known for being an incredibly adaptable and versatile musician, at home with a wide variety of musical styles and situations (ranging from jazz to orchestral; pop rock to music theater and beyond). She plays Caribbean steelpans and sings with her popular band, Caribe (www.caribesteelband.com). Angie is also a dedicated and passionate music educator, teaching as artist faculty for Centrum Foundation’s youth programs, and as a private music instructor.
