The Food Bank Growers is an organization with a large group of local people from Port Townsend and the surrounding communities who are growing vegetables and fruits for the local Food Banks
Born in the Philippines, Lino Rivera has performed as a solo recitalist, concerto soloist, chamber musician and accompanist on three continents. He makes it his mission to advocate and premiere contemporary works; to explore and meet the artistic, creative, and technical challenges of piano transcriptions; and to discover and perform obscure solo piano repertoire throughout the ages. Lino is known for engaging his audiences by bringing the pieces he plays to life through sharing his knowledge and interacting with the audience, breaking the formality of the concert experience.
The program this evening will include selections from the following:
– Two ethereal pieces by Liszt – St. Dorothea, and Hymn to St. Cecilia;
– the improvisatory and cerebral music of Bach (Prelude and Fugue);
– the emotional, humorous, and down-to-earth music of Beethoven (Sonata Op. 31, No. 3), Schubert (Klavierstuecke), and Filipino composer Bernardino Custodio (Ritual Dance).
Dr. Rivera is a celebrated performer for Composers, Inc., an organization based in San Francisco that is dedicated to promoting works by contemporary American composers, where he has performed three World Premieres in the past seasons.
Lino currently serves as Professor of Music at Saint Mary’s College of California. He holds degrees in piano performance from the University of Santo Tomas, the University of Hawaii, and a doctorate from the University of Maryland. Lino maintains active concert engagements across the country, and is a regular performer, teacher, and chamber music coach at music festivals here and abroad.
Trinity United Methodist Church is located at 609 Taylor Street, across from the Community Center, in Uptown. Attendees should plan on arriving early. Doors will open at 6:30 PM. Masks are strong encouraged for in-person attendees.
Please join us for an enjoyable evening of classical piano with Lino Rivera!
