Trinity United Methodist’s Candlelight Concerts

is pleased to present:

Terry Reitz, Organist performing her “plant-based” program based on work by composer Victoria Bond.

The performance will be live streamed at https://trinityumcpt.org/concerts/ where you will find a link for the Candlelight Concerts Online and ways to donate. The concert will also be simulcast on KPTZ FM 91.9 Radio Port Townsend.

Admission to the concert is free (really!), with a suggested donation $15 per person. You are most welcome to attend whether you choose to donate or not. Half of the proceeds from this concert will go to Terry’s chosen charity, The Food Bank Growers whose mission is to “grow, gather, and give away nutritionally-dense fruits and vegetables to build healthy, vibrant communities, improve food security, and decrease food waste for our Jefferson County neighbors.”

This presentation is a “plant-based” program based on work by composer Victoria Bond. It won the 2009 Walter Hinrichsen Award presented by the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. The work originally consisted of 7 musical descriptions of Peculiar Plants with poetic introductions presented by Janice Park and written by the composer and Kenneth Cooper.

The pieces were written for harpsichord – for this program Terry has rearranged them to use as many of the keyboards in Trinity United Methodist Church as available. According to Terry, “You really can’t do Strangler Fig and Creeping Moss with a plucked stringed instrument when you have great bass pipes available!” And the Ghost Orchid needed the wispy voices available on the electronic keyboard. Closing the program will be memories of music for Roses and the Bach Fantasia in C.

Terry ReitzTerry’s journey continues with Trinity Methodist and textile clients in her studio in the woods in Quilcene, WA. Exploring the elements relating to both arts continues to be her fascination – the presentation of texture, structure and beauty as applied to both audial and visual expressions is an ongoing adventure.

Trinity United Methodist Church is located at 609 Taylor Street, across from the Community Center, in Uptown. Attendees should plan on arriving early – doors will open at 6:30. Masks are encouraged for in-person attendees.
